Ingredient

Fruit Base

  • 8 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (3 pounds)

  • ⅓ cup lemon juice

Sweetness

  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar

  • ⅔ cup brown sugar, light or dark

Richness & Flavor

  • ½ cup unsalted butter

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Thickener

  • 6 tablespoons cornstarch

Liquid

  • ½ cup water

Direction

  1. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with the lemon juice.

  2. Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon, then toss until the apples are evenly coated.

  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium‑high heat. Add the apples and cook, stirring, until the sugars dissolve and the mixture begins to simmer, about 2 minutes.

  4. Cover the skillet, reduce the heat to medium‑low, and cook until the apples soften and release most of their juices, about 7 minutes.

  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water until smooth.

  6. Pour the cornstarch mixture into the apples and cook, stirring frequently, for 1–2 minutes, until the filling thickens.

  7. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely.

  8. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
