Ingredient

Base & Aromatics

  • 4 slices thick‑cut bacon, chopped

  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced

  • 2 cans (15 oz each) small beans (navy or great northern), drained and rinsed

  • ½ cup water

Sweet & Tangy Sauce

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • ¼ cup molasses (not blackstrap)

  • ¼ cup ketchup

  • 3 Tbsp prepared yellow mustard

  • 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar

Seasoning

  • 1½ tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp kosher salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

Directions

1. Preheat the Oven Set the oven to 350°F.

2. Cook the Bacon In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crisp, 6–8 minutes. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel‑lined plate, reserving 2 tablespoons of bacon fat in the skillet.

3. Sauté the Aromatics Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook in the bacon fat until soft and beginning to brown, 6–8 minutes. Stir in the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

4. Simmer the Sauce Add the water, beans, brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, mustard, and vinegar. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring until fully combined.

5. Bake the Beans Transfer the bean mixture to a 2‑quart baking dish. Sprinkle the reserved crispy bacon evenly over the top.

6. Cook and Serve Bake for 45 minutes, or until the beans are bubbling and the sauce has thickened. Let the dish rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
