Tool
Waffle maker
Ingredients
1¾ cups all‑purpose flour
½ cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1¾ cups whole milk
½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Direction
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Sift in cocoa powder, then whisk everything together.
In a medium bowl, whisk milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla.
Pour wet mixture into dry mixture and stir until just combined — a few lumps are fine.
Set batter aside while the waffle iron heats.
Cook the Waffles
Preheat waffle iron on High.
Brush with melted butter or spray with nonstick spray.
Add ¼ to 1 cup batter per cavity depending on your waffle maker size.
Cook 3–4 minutes, until steaming slows and waffles turn darker brown.
Transfer to a wire rack to keep crisp until serving.
Serve
Enjoy hot with berries, maple syrup, butter, whipped cream, or chocolate chips.
Notes
Yield varies by waffle maker. A 7‑inch round iron uses about 1 cup batter per waffle (about 5 waffles total).
Room‑temperature eggs and milk help the batter mix smoothly.
To keep waffles warm, place them on a wire rack in a 200°F oven.
For extra chocolate flavor, fold ½ cup mini chocolate chips into the batter.
