Fun History
Fruit cobbler is a traditional American dessert, especially rooted in the Southern United States. The technique of baking fruit with a biscuit‑style or batter topping is distinctly American and dates back to early colonial cooking adaptations.
INGREDIENTS
Fruit Base
5 to 6 cups chopped fresh fruit (apples, rhubarb, blueberries, peaches, or a combination)
Batter
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
½ cup cold butter, cubed
1 cup 2% milk
Topping
⅓ cup sugar
¼ cup cornstarch
1½ cups boiling water
DIRECTION
Prepare Fruit
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Grease a 13×9‑inch baking dish.
Spread chopped fruit evenly in the bottom of the dish.
Make the Batter
In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Cut in cold butter until the mixture is crumbly.
Stir in milk to form a thick batter.
Spoon batter evenly over the fruit.
Add the Topping
Combine sugar and cornstarch; sprinkle over the batter.
Pour 1½ cups boiling water over everything — do not stir.
Bake
Bake 40–45 minutes, until fruit is tender and the topping is golden and set.
Cool slightly before serving.

Apples + rhubarb
Blueberries + peaches
