Ingredient

Caramelized Onions

  • 1 Tbsp canola oil

  • 1 tsp butter

  • 1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced

  • Dash salt

  • Dash sugar

Burgers

  • ⅓ cup jalapeño pepper jelly

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp pepper

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 4 hamburger buns, split and toasted

  • 2 Tbsp crumbled Gorgonzola cheese

  • Thinly sliced jalapeño pepper, optional

Directions

1. Caramelize the Onions In a small skillet, heat the canola oil and butter over medium heat. Add the onion, along with a dash of salt and a dash of sugar. Cook and stir until the onion is softened, 3–4 minutes. Reduce heat to medium‑low and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the onions are deep golden brown, 4–6 minutes. Set aside.

2. Make the Burger Patties In a large bowl, combine the jalapeño pepper jelly, salt, and pepper. Add the ground beef and mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into four ½‑inch‑thick patties.

3. Grill or Broil Grill the burgers, covered, over medium heat, or broil 4 inches from the heat, until a thermometer reads 160°F, about 4–5 minutes per side.

4. Assemble the Burgers Place each cooked patty on a toasted hamburger bun. Top with the caramelized onions, Gorgonzola cheese, and thinly sliced jalapeño, if desired.

5. Serve - Serve hot and enjoy the sweet‑heat combo.
